It is close to midday on a Sunday morning of the first week of September, 2019. The Warthogs team is carving through the dusty roads that branch from Namadzi Trading Centre heading uphill. The team comprising of Duncan Phiri (Content Development Executive), James Gondwe, Vincent Khoswe and Daniel Cholomali (Business Development and Client Servicing Executives) have been touring around Blantyre and Thyolo for the past 2 days in the preamble stage of its national research initiative. The aim, among others, is to find out different people’s perceptions of national developmental issues and come up with feasible ways of enhancing communication about the such issues to the masses. This was the third and final day of the activity and a task to implore Chiradzulu and Zomba lay ahead.

The team set for Group Village Luna’s residence and are approached by 3 teenage boys. They lead the team to him and they engage in a Question and Answer session, highlighting his perceptions about  national developmental initiatives as well as putting recommendations on how outreach to the masses can be improved. He furthermore leads the team to village head Nsungwi and Mchanawo where similar engagements are held.

With the sun displaying its wrath deep in the afternoon, the team sets for T/A Mbwana’s area. They ask for directions to the leader’s house in this area characterized by massive vegetation that inhibits visibility of settlements. In her 80s, the female leader, accompanied by daughters, daughter’s in-law and grandchildren sheds light on her perception of national developmental initiatives. The conversation is so overwhelming and mind-blowing but the team cannot stay for long. They part ways and the team are back on the road.

On their visits to Thondwe and Zomba markets, the team are amazed by the will to participate exercised by the vendors. Most of them acknowledge the role organizations play in uplifting small-scale enterprises and are eager to hear what the team has to share.

Warthogs Inc. does not leave any wishes on their checklist so they decide it is not ideal to leave out the views of the intellect. Chancellor College is the final destination with the team engaging lecturers, parents and just arrived first year students.

Heading back to Blantyre, the team are satisfied with the proceedings of the initiative. James Gondwe says organizations must emulate what Warthogs Inc is doing in assessing audiences for developmental initiatives and searching for diversified ways of extending their outreach. On the other hand, traditional leaders and other individuals in leadership express delight with what Warthogs Inc is doing. They say the enlightenment they are receiving will help them participate fully in whichever   developmental initiative that will be implemented in future.

It is 5:50 pm and the team is in Blantyre and as they part ways, one thing is for sure, tomorrow is another day for yet another fruitful and explorative adventure.
